Man Sentenced for Threatening to Burn Black Churches

Jeffrey Smith of Massachusetts received judgment for sending offensive letters to predominately African-American churches and four NAACP offices.

You can say “God don’t like ugly” again. A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for sending threating letters to burn Black churches and NAACP offices in three states. On Monday, Jeffrey Smith pleaded guilty to 11 counts of mailing letters threatening to burn down seven predominately Black churches and four NAACP offices in Cambridge, Roxbury and Medford, Massachusetts; Providence, Rhode Island; and Charlotte, North Carolina. His letters acknowledged that he did not like African-Americans, minorities as his supervisors or minorities as the “President of the United States.”
